Slice

A slice is a shot that curves sharply from left to right for a right-handed golfer.

It happens when the clubface is significantly open relative to the club path at impact. The ball starts left, then the excessive left-to-right spin sends it well off target. Slices often lead to big distance losses because the ball balloons and lands softly.

Fitters look closely at a player’s slice pattern to understand whether equipment is making the miss worse.

A shaft that’s too stiff, a face that’s too open, or a lie angle that’s too flat can all contribute.

Adjusting loft, lie angle, shaft profile, or choosing a more forgiving, draw-biased head can help reduce the severity of a slice and produce a straighter, more playable ball flight.
