Strike Quality

In plain terms: Strike Quality is how solid the hit was.

What Strike Quality Includes

Strike quality is not one single thing. It’s a combination of a few impact factors:

  • Face contact location
  • Center vs heel, toe, high, or low on the clubface
  • Smash factor / energy transfer
  • How efficiently club speed turns into ball speed
  • Low point control (for irons and wedges)
  • Whether the club strikes ball before turf
  • Consistency
  • How repeatable the contact is shot to shot

What Strike Quality is Not

  • Not swing speed alone
  • Not distance by itself
  • Not “best shot ever” contact

You can swing fast and still have poor strike quality.

Why Strike Quality Matters

  • Better distance control
  • Tighter shot dispersion
  • More predictable ball flight
  • Fewer “mystery” misses

This is why fitters and coaches often prioritize strike quality before chasing more speed.
